Creating a New Product
To create a new product:
- Go to Application->Catalog
- from the Catalog Manager dashboard, click on create new product link
Alternatively:
- Go to Application -> Catalog
- From Catalog Manager Menu click on Products.
- Now on the product search page, click on the New Product link on top right.
Product ID: this id is automatically created when a product is created. Product ID is the system ID for the item, which can be automatically defined by the system
Product Type: A descriptive term used in the system to classify products, and sometimes to select the type of processing that will be applied to the Product related applications. Select Finished Product, configurable product or digital product.
Internal Name (mandatory): The Internal Product Name is Your Own organization specific name for this product (not the name used by its manufacturer, or other outside parties). This is be used for internal reference / identification and will not be shown on the frontend. Internal Name is also used to create the product page URL (max 256 chars). ?*?*
Brand Name: Enter the Brand name of the product. DWA Commerce automatically creates a micro site for each of the Brands that exist in the store.
OEM Party ID (optional): Enter the OEM ID if you have one. ?*?*Used for what purpose?*
Comments: These comments are for viewing by the internal Users of this Catalog Manager Product definition page, and comments do not appear on the E-Commerce Web Store site. Enter Comments
Dates block of the product page
Introduction Date: The date at which product will be available for sale. Product can't be bought before this date. The date when this Product will become available for sale. If the field is left blank, to current date and time will be entered by the system.
Release Date: This is just to share information with customer that when a product will be released. (Check if we can add to cart for a future release date)
Sales Discontinuation Thru Date: The date post which the product will no longer be available for sale. Customer will not be able to purchase the product after this date. The last date and time when the Product will be available for sale.
Support Thru Date: The last date and time when the Product will be supported by your Company. Date by which the product will be supported, this field may only be used to display on the WebFront (theme dependent) The last date and time when the Product will be supported by your Company, in terms you have specified which define "Support".
Disc. When Inv. Not Avail: Should the Product availability be discontinued when the current Inventory is exhausted? Yes/No
If you select “Y”, the product will be discontinued if there is no inventory the store runs out of inventory for the product. The product is also removed from the category and all product associations.
Requirement Method:
When the inventory of a product falls below a predefined level, DWA Commerce can automatically create a requirement for the purchase of inventory of the product. Select how the requirements for additional product supply be created:-
- No requirement Created when sales orders are entered. thus, only Material Resources Planning(MRP) will produce your requirements.
- Automatic for Every Sales order – Requirement is created each time a sales order is created, for the quantity equal to the item order.
- When QOH Reaches Minimum Stock for Product-Facility – a Requirement is created the first time QOH (quantity on hand)falls below the minimum stock level set for Product and facility of the order, for the reorder quantity defined for that facility.
- When ATP Reaches Minimum Stock for Product-Facility – a Requirement is created the first time ATP (available to promise)falls below the minimum stock level set for Product and facility of the order, for the reorder quantity defined for that facility.
- Requirement for order when ATP Reaches Minimum Stock for Product-Facility – a Requirement is created for the quantity of the order item if the ATP is below minimum stock, without regard to reorder quantity. (This is often used for simple automated purchasing.)
- Drop ship only – The item is only drop shipped.
- Auto drop ship on low quantity – Do Not Use, not yet implemented in DWA commerce.
Require Inventory: Should inventory be required to purchase this product? If not specified defaults to Store setting.?????
Should inventory (in stock) be required before processing a Sales Order for this product? If not specified, the behaviour will default to that specified in the Store setting, where the Sales Order is being processed.
Inventory Message: Message to display to the User, or the Customer of the Web Store, in case the "Require Inventory" rule just specified is actually invoked.
Lot ID: Enables / disables the tracking of LotId of the inventory
Review Rating Override
Override: This is a HACK – Select a value here if you would like to override the average of product review ratings given by the customers.
- Min Rating: Select this to ensure that the product review rating displayed on the WebFront will never fall below the rating entered in the next field.
- Max Rating: Select this to ensure that the product review rating displayed on the WebFront will never go beyond the rating entered in the next field.
- Rating Override: Select this to ensure that the product review rating displayed on the WebFront will always be the rating entered in the next field.
Rating: Enter a value between 1 and 5 – this will override the average of product review ratings given by the customers.
Shipping
Shipping information is supplied at the Store level, except for these Product specific data items. This section contains the following data items for entry in defining the selected Product:
- Pieces Included -- Pieces included when the Product ID is ordered.
- In Shipping Box -- Is the Product sold in its shipping box?
- Default Shipment Box Type Id -- Select standard shipping box types.
- Charge Shipping -- Is the shipping charge added to the Order for this Product?
Miscellaneous
- -- Is the Product Returnable?
- Include In Promotions -- Can this Product included in the Order Items that are used to calculate the qualification for Promotions?
- -- Is the Product a Taxable item in the Order?
- – Select “Y” if you would like the system to automatically create these Keywords for this product. Note that this may create a number of irrelevant keywords, so you may need to manually remove those keywords.
Alternatively use the Product page > [Keywords] Tab to enter Keywords manually.
Use the prices tab to manage the price of the product. DWA Commerce offers several types of prices, as listed below:
- Average Cost:
- Box Price:
- Competitive Price: Price as which Competition is selling the same product. This information can we used on the WebFront to compare your prices with that of the competition. The display is theme dependent and may require WebStore customization
- Default Price: The price as which you will be selling the product.
- List Price: also known as the MRP of your product.
- Maximum Price: The maximum price as with this product can be sold on your WebFront.
- Minimum order Price:
- Minimum Price: The maximum price as with this product can be sold on your WebFront.
- Promotional Price:
- Special Promo Price:
- Wholesale Price: The wholesale price of the product
Every Product should be at least a Default Price; and if you are using Price Rules, make sure that you also specify List Price for every product.
Updating a price to the product
- the product for which the price is to be set. Click on price tab.
- Here you can see all the prices of the product if its an already existing product. You can update price from here or you can expire a price and set a new price from here.
- To update an already existing price just change the price and click update button. One can also set the thru date of the price till which this price will be applicable.
- To add a new price to the product just select the price type from drop down and make sure that there is one default price set for the product.
Add price of a product:
- Price Type: select price type.
- currency of the price
- : This is the price. It is a required field.
- From Date: From which date this price will be applicable. It can be a future date to automatically change the price on a particular day.
- Thru Date: This price is applicable upto the selected date. This allows you to expire the price on the given date. Leave blank
Use the content tab to manage name and description
- Product Name: This name will be shown to the user on frontend. Product name is the name of the product you want to show to the customer.
- Product Description: A short description about the product.
- Long Description: Detail description about the product.
A product in DWA Commerce can have up to 5 images (1 primary Image and 4 additional images). Use this tab to manage these product images.
For optimal performance, DWA Commerce uses 4 four sizes of every product image (small, medium, large and detailed – size specification varies based on the theme). But you don’t need to worry about resizing the image in multiple sized. When you upload a product image, DWA commerce automatically resizes the images for all the sizes based on the theme specification.
- Click Images tab
- Click browse and select the images that you’d like to upload or change.
- Once done, click upload to upload / update the images.
Use the Geos tab if you have a special relation wrt to the product sale or shipment in specific geography.
- Geo Id : select the Geography

- Purchase Include Geo: Where the Product can be sold
- Purchase Exclude Geo: Where the Product cannot be sold
- Shipping Include Geo: Where the Product can be shipped
- Shipping Exclude Geo: Where the Product cannot be shipped
- Description
- Click [Add] button
Use this tab to maintain additional product ids like ISBN #, SKU etc.
Category tab of product page menu displays the list of categories that the product associated with. It also allows you to edit / delete these associations as well as add new associations.
To associate a product to its relevant categories:
- Click the Category tab of product page menu
- On the Add Product Categories section:
- Category ID – that you would like to associate the product to.
- From Date – The initial effective date
- Thru Date - the effective through date
- Sequence Number – the sequence number at which the product should display in the category page.
Keywords are used for searching products on the WebStore as well as the DWA Commerce Console. These keywords are automatically (when you have selected “Y” for AutoCreateKeywords while creating a product) created by the system based on the product name and product content information entered.
Alternatively you can use the Keyword tab to manually create keywords. Keywords have a weight associated with it that indicates relevancy in the search operation – higher number (between 1 to 4) indicated higher relevancy.
Use the Associations tab to define the product association with other products like accessories, Similar Products, Upgrades, etc. These associations can be used to cross-sell and up-sell products, make recommendations to your customers. These product associations can then be displayed on the product’s detail page (this is subject to theme’s design and my need customization).
Use this tab to add, edit & update your product specification like style, color, fabric, material, weigh, etc. That’s not all; business users can use this tab to select the attributes that the website user can filter the products on using DWA Commerce’s Instant faceted search on category page. This allows website users to quickly narrow down the product of their chose thus increasing conversion ratio.
- When on your product page, click the specifications tab
- Enter
- Name: of the specification eg, color, material.
- Value:
For Virtual products, use the tab to select the product features and it’s interactions with other features.
To select features and create the variants of your virtual product:
- Go to “Add Product Feature From Category or Group” section
- Choose a Feature Category
- Select Feature Application Type:
- Selectable – The user must select one of several choices when ordering to define the specific variant.
- Standard -- A Standard characteristic of a product, mentioned for a complete description
- Required -- A Feature which is a prerequisite within a variant that is being ordered
- Optional -- An Optional Feature that can be selected, or not selected
- Distinguishing -- A Feature that defines the unique characteristic of a product
- Click Add
- This displays a screen that lists the Features that are part of the Feature Category. Use the screen to select the features that you would like to associate with the Virtual Product and their sequence number.
- Repeat the process for the features you would like to add to your virtual product.
DWA Commerce also allows you to define feature relationship:
- Dependent Feature: when selection a product, if a user selects one feature, he should also select the dependent feature.
- Incompatible Feature: the user should not select both the features together.
To specify special interaction between any of the product features
- Got to “Add Feature Interaction” section
- Top of Form
- Product Feature Id : select the feature ID
- Product Feature Id to : select the feature ID
- Bottom of Form
- Interaction Type: select
- “Dependent Feature” if the features go together.
- “Incompatible Feature” if the features don’t go together.
Use this tab to view / associate the product to a warehouse or warehouses.
- Facility Id: Select the warehouse
- Minimum Stock: enter the minimum stock quantity, once this stock level is reached, the system will generate the requirement based on the Requirement Method defined in the Store Setting (overridden by the Requirement Method defined in the Product Tab)
- Reorder Quantity: The quantity that will be reordered when the inventory falls below the minimum stock levels. This should be consistent with the supplier's reorder requirements.
- Days To Ship: Time in days required to ship to product to customer. This is used just to display the shipping lead time on the WebFront eg. “Usually ships in 5 days”
Use this tab to view / define the location within the warehouse where this product is stored
- Go to Location tab
- Facility Id : select the warehouse facility Id
- Location Seq Id: enter the location within the facility where the product will be stored.
- Minimum Stock: that will be maintained at the location
- Move Quantity: the stock quantity that will be required to move to the location once it falls below the minimum stock.
Use this tab to view the current inventory status and details of this product across warehouses and locations. It also displays Outstanding Purchase Orders inventory.
This tab displays the suppliers for this product. You can also use this tab to add suppliers for this product
- : Select the supplier who will supply this product
- Available from date: the date from which a supplier can be able so supply product.
- Minimum Order Quantity: the minimum quantity below which the supplier will not entertain order.
- Currency: currency of the supplier
- Supplier Pref order id: Select if this supplier is the primary supplier or alternative supplier
- Standard Lead Time Days -- Supplier's order fulfillment lead time
- Supplier can Dropship: If a supplier can drop ship or not.
- Last price: the price at which the product was bought from the supplier
- Supplier Product Name:Supplier’s product name
- Standard Lead Time Days: required by the supplier
- Avlbl To Promise By Supplier:
The Variants tab is visible only if you have “Is VIRTUAL Product?” set to “Y” on the product tab. Use this tab to create variant of the Virtual Product.
Note: Make sure that you have selected and added the features (using the Features Tab) for the Virtual Product.
- Go to the Variant’s Tab for the Virtual Product.
- The page lists all the possible of variant products based features selected.
- Check the “All” checkbox to select all the variants and populate the variant Product IDs and there sequence #s.
- Click Create to create the desired variants
Use the orders tab to view the orders history for this products.
